K-12 Education in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties & Florida Colleges

A child may begin Kindergarten in all counties in South Florida if he or she reaches the age 5 years on or before September 1st. Contact Early Childhood Department at (305) 765-6362 for information on kindergarten enrollment.

A child who becomes 6 years on or before September of the school year may start first grade if the child has completed kindergarten and has a transcript or report card.

The child must also have a record of immunization from a doctor or public health clinic for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (5), polio (TOPV) (4), measles, mumps and rubella (1 each).

For first time residents in the state of Florida, the child must have a birth certificate or other proof of age, a previous school record, have had a medical exam no more than 12 months before registration, and proof of residence within the school district.
